Nutrition Myth #4 Red Meat Causes Cancer.

21 Nutrition Myths For 2021 - #4 Red Meat is Bad For You

The most common myth about red meat is that it causes cancer. However, it’s the binary labeling of all foods, being good or bad, that causes such misunderstanding.

The first thing to consider here is “the dose makes the poison.” Almost all food is “toxic,” causes cancer and can kill you, when isolating a specific chemical in them. (Yes, even all natural organic food) Am J Nutr 2013

It’s only when red meat is over-consumed and prepared in a specific way that correlates to potential cancer, but please remember, correlation doesn’t always equal causation. More specific, it’s smoked, charred and highly processed meats that should be consumed in moderation. Again though the cancer risk in this is predominately seen in people that also happen to be smokers, drink alcohol, lead sedentary lives and overate poor diets as well. (2014 systematic review Jpn J Cln Oncol)

However when red meat is consumed in moderation, with regular exercise, coupled with fiber, fruits and veggies, and the removal of alcohol and smoking. The cancer risk is of no concern as the outcomes arnt replicated.
