Caffeine and obesity

Does caffeine help stop obesity ☕️

A new study found drinking high amounts of caffeine was associated with lower appetite, lower calorie consumption and lower BMI. Does this mean we should all start drinking at least 3 coffees a day?! Not exactly….

Why? Because genetics is a factor. Although this new 2021 study in the international journal of obesity is making headlines, we need to realize more data is needed as it’s the first study of its kind to examine the link between caffeine, genetics and obesity.

Although it did show those who drink more caffeine have a lower risk of obese, it was only in participants that not only metabolize caffeine rapidly but also had a higher genetic risk of obesity in the first place.

So does this mean drinking coffee and caffeine is useless? No. If you find it helps you to get up, get active and keep moving, drink up. However, just understand it’s not a magic pill and you should continue to focus on regular daily healthy habits instead of looking for a short cut.
